Provides technical and operational support to the laboratory. Collaborates with Laboratory Management, technical specialists and other lead techs to support a high quality work environment. Acts as a liaison between the Laboratory and internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

Performs and reports routine and complex laboratory analyses that require a complex network of steps. Uses set protocols and guidelines and independent judgment to evaluate the credibility and accuracy of test results. Performs work in an efficient manner by coordinating testing steps to achieve maximum productivity.

Operates, maintains, and repairs clinical laboratory equipment within the scope of training including routine preventive maintenance, reagent preparation, calibrations, and safety checks. Keeps appropriate persons informed of instrument problems and resolutions. -

Maintains currency in the field through completion of all mandatory competencies and training modules, regular review of departmental policies and procedures and participation in continuing education opportunities.

Performs and records all quality control procedures. Evaluates the results of quality control and implements corrective action when indicated. Keeps appropriate person(s) informed of ongoing problems and resolution of problems.

Obtains blood specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture within scope of training and demonstrated competency.

Competently accessions, triages and processes specimens in preparation for testing and transit. Evaluates samples for acceptability.

Follows all safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

Education:

Minimum Required: Associate's or bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or medical technology OR Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, microbiology, etc. from an accredited institution.

License & Certification:

MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), or MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent required

Years of Experience:

Minimum Required: Two (2) years experience in a laboratory

Preferred: Three (3) years experience in a laboratory

Required Skills and Knowledge:

Must be able to professionally interact with patients, visitors, physicians and staff.

Must have excellent customer service skills including superior communication skills (verbal, written, and listening).

Must have good analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to multi-task effectively in a stressful environment.
