Quality & Safety Specialist (RN), Nursing Administration

Job Description

The Nursing Quality and Safety Specialist will be responsible for supporting quality, patient safety and accreditation standards within the assigned units/service line.

This leadership position will work collaboratively with the unit/service line leadership and the Quality & Safety Manager to assure all members of the healthcare team maintain performance standards for professional nursing practice, delivery of safe, high quality clinical care and outcomes.

Responsibilities

Performance Measurement: 30%
  • Participates in organizational and unit based quality improvement and patient safety activities, observation and data collection and provides input on standards of care.
  • In collaboration with department leaders, reviews care provided, audits medical records and identifies areas for improvement.
  • Provides peer leadership and serves as a resource for quality and safety.
  • Accountable in collaboration with the department leader for unit/department/organizational goals and achievement in all priority areas.
  • Develops implements and participates in quality improvement and patient safety process activities, performance measurement and evaluation of outcomes.

Analytics: 30%
  • Participates in SWARMS and RCAs related to department or division incidents.
  • Works collaboratively with other Quality team leadership linking operational and customer service strategies in the organization improvement plans.
  • Strong computer based skills including but not limited to; Midas, Excel, Power Point and EPIC.
  • Able to produce and analyze data as needed for performance improvement.

Compliance: 25%
  • Assures compliance and education of staff regarding the regulation and expectations of TJC, ODH, OSHA and other regulatory bodies.
  • Leads unit/division specific certifications as specified and oversees and ensures standardization of unit based quality initiatives.
  • Develops corrective action plans and monitors for continual survey readiness.

Collaboration: 10%
  • Assists in quality and safety activities within the Department of Nursing and organizationally as needed.
  • Participates in the CDIS Teams and other quality programs aligned with organizational goals.

Other Duties: 5%
  • Other duties as assigned that align with the UC Health Way and quality improvement.
  • Review the physical demands and assign an overall average percentage of time this position performs these activities.


Qualifications

Bachelors Degree - Nursing

Masters Degree - Preferred Degree

License & Certification:
  • Licensed RN in the State of Ohio
  • CPHQ certification preferred

3 - 5 Years equivalent experience
