Registered Nurse (RN) - Lindner Center of HOPE - ECT, Part-time, Days

Job Description

This position provides direct professional nursing care to patients receiving electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) through the implementation of the procedural protocols and individual treatment plan. Initiates nursing standards, implements physical & psychological patient care, & evaluates responses to care as a member of the interdisciplinary team.


Assesses & analyzes health status data
  • Completes initial & comprehensive nursing assessment at admission
    1. Notes skin condition
    2. Reviews allergies and medications
  • Assures NPO status
  • Reviews medication reconciliation
  • Provides ongoing assessment of patient based on observations & initial assessment results
  • Engages with other members of the interdisciplinary team to discuss assessment data

Identifies appropriate plan of care to meet patient needs
  • Verifies that appropriate physician orders are entered in the medical record
  • Verifies valid consent and clinical work up is present in the medical record
  • Follows up on any abnormalities or deficiencies
  • Implements protocols and individualized treatment plan with a focus on the individual patient needs

Delivers active nursing care & intervention
  • Provides care based on the established treatment plan
  • Uses two identifiers
  • Provides pre-procedure instruction to patient
  • Obtains vital signs and weight
  • Performs intravenous (IV) access venipuncture
  • Initiates discharge planning
  • Involves patient & involved others in the care process
  • Administers medication in accordance with standards and policy
  • Transports patients safely

Evaluates responses to care
  • Assesses patient readiness for procedures & progress related to goals & treatment plan
  • Provides regular documentation of patient status

Provides education to patients & families
  • Assists in identifying learning needs of the patient & involved others
  • Presents information to patients & involved others utilizing age specific principles
  • Assesses comprehension of information

Facilitates customer satisfaction
  • Identifies issues of customer service
  • Acts to resolve customer service issues within available options
  • Refers complex & unresolved issues to the appropriate parties
  • Participates in meetings with referral sources & external agencies

Coordinates patient care occurring in the department
  • Collaborates with all members of the health care team to meet patient needs
  • Ensures proper reporting of unusual occurrences

Participates in the continuous improvement of the organization through the quality improvement process
  • Completes monitors for assigned indicators
  • Implements actions that result in continuous improvement of quality & compliance
  • Participates in the organization wide quality measures


Position Requirements
  1. Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  2. CPR Certification - BLS and ACLS required
  3. Two years of perioperative experience required
  4. Certification of Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from the American Nurse Association Credentialing Center (preferred)
