UC Health is hiring a PRN Rehab Aide for the rehabilitation service's department at West Chester Hospital.

The Rehabilitation Aide provides non-skilled assistance in the delivery of patient care under the direction of a licensed physical therapist/occupational therapist/speech therapist/recreational therapist. This includes general cleanliness and maintenance of therapy equipment and treatment areas, and assistance with clerical duties as indicated.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:
  • Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
  • Cleans all equipment used daily during patient care, including weights, Swiss balls, modalities and carts, assistive devices, nautilus machines and cardiovascular equipment. Completes biweekly cleaning of hot pack/cold pack machines, paraffin bath, nautilus machines and hot pack covers. Informs supervisor of malfunctioning/defective equipment and calls bioengineering for repair as directed. Ensures malfunctioning/defective equipment is out of treatment areas and labeled to prevent use in patient care. Issues wheelchairs and cushions to newly admitted patients and exchanges wheelchairs/cushions for specialty items as requested by the therapist based on patient needs. Cleans all wheelchairs and cushions and tags with Drake logo in preparation for patient use. Performs general wheelchair maintenance and informs supervisor of need for parts, repair, and replacement. Maintains inventory for wheelchair room and informs supervisor of equipment needs.
  • Performs general patient treatment and assistance as directed by the physical therapist/occupational therapist including stretching and strengthening exercises, wheelchair follow, gait, transfers and fabrication of adaptive equipment including leg straps and padding/completion of bi-valve casts. Reports patient/family questions/issues to the therapist and follows therapists' instructions regarding delivery of care. Assists patients in all tasks to prepare the patient for their scheduled therapy session as directed by the therapist including dressing, transfers, toileting, and all other possible ADL and mobility needs. Provides transportation for patients from Bridgeway Pointe to main gym for therapy sessions.
  • Promotes general cleanliness and positive appearance of treatment areas by eliminating clutter and returning equipment to proper storage areas. Changes table linens between patients, empties linen bins as needed, and keeps clean linens stocked in patient treatment areas. Maintains temperature logs for hot pack, cold pack and paraffin units and alerts supervisor if temperatures fall outside acceptable range according to department policy. Assists with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies. Refills ultrasound gel bottles in patient treatment areas for easy accessibility during patient care. Completes all other duties assigned by supervisor to assure smooth operation of the department. Appropriately greets patients in waiting room and assists with customer satisfaction by aiding in management of patient wait time and transporting patients to from waiting room to treatment area as designated by therapy staff.
  • Available to team by being at work when scheduled and adheres to UC Health meal periods and break policy. Arrives on time, is prepared, is flexible in response to workload demands, and helps others complete work when possible. Demonstrates flexibility and self-direction in meeting patient and departmental needs by responding as a team player. Is able to travel to all facilities and departments in which therapy services are provided including LTAC, SNF, Christ, Hoxworth, West Chester, and Holmes in order to meet the fluctuating workload demands.
  • Follows direction of licensed therapist in the delivery of patient care, and reports patient response to treatment and patient/family questions to therapist for follow up. Collaborates with peers to assure completion of necessary clinical and clerical tasks.
  • Photocopies and organizes all departmental forms, and patient education/exercise forms. Faxes plans of care to physicians and assists in ensuring their signed return. Files returned plans of care into the appropriate patient's charts. Delivers outpatient scheduling forms and other materials to/from the central scheduling department throughout the day. Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly lobby area, throws away all trash and papers at the end of the day. Posts therapy schedules on assigned unit at end of day. Keeps patient care forms including evaluations, patient education and exercise sheets, etc. stocked on assigned unit. Assists with filing, copying, faxing and ordering of supplies as clinical schedule allows.


Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum Required: High School Education.
  • Certified in CPR
