The Database Administrator reviews, evaluates, monitors, and maintains databases for UC Health.

Responsibilities
Maintenance, Monitoring and Problem Resolution -
- Applies extensive knowledge of database design and configuration to monitor existing databases.
- Resolves database performance & capacity issues in a timely manner.
- Writes scripts to automate database backups and performs periodic testing of database.
- Monitors web sites of database vendors for information on available software fixes and applies those fixes when appropriate.
- Applies knowledge of resources, constraints and organizational values in decision making process.
- Coordinates with other IS&T staff members and users to resolve system problems.
- Applies upgrades on all servers and systems to minimize problems in accordance with vender specifications.
- Administers, maintains, develops and implements policies/procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of databases.
- Evaluates various software tools that will help in monitoring and problem resolutions.
- Ability to interpret and write complex SQL queries.
System Definition and Integration -
- Applies extensive knowledge of database design, configuration, installation and tuning to UC Health systems.
- Works with vendors to define specifications.
- Works with IS&T staff to coordinate deployment including database replications, failover and clusters.
- Monitors performance to insure appropriate service of all new systems.
Planning and Staff Development -
- Works with IS&T staff, department representatives and vendors as necessary to provide technical expertise and assistance in installation, upgrade, and maintenance of new data base systems on UC Health servers.
- Works with IS&T staff to implement databases and migrations to new version levels.
- Provides guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team.
Documentation -
- Appropriately documents application information, backup and disaster recovery procedures, and database structures.
- Provides necessary documentation for network, installations, configurations, procedures, and other related network functions.
- Identifies data sources and constructs data diagrams, data flow diagrams and documents processes.
Coordination of IS&T activities -
- Encourages and displays actions that result in high client satisfaction
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a changing environment.
- Provides effective coordination with vendors, consultants, users, and IS&T staff.
- Works well in a team environment.
- Ensures that change management procedures are followed.
- Provides input to project charters.
- Provides task level detail for project plans.
- Provides accurate and timely individual status reports and timesheets.
- Monitors, updates, and enters new tasks in TSD.
- Enters PTO information in THA payroll application.
- Updates the team calendar in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science focusing on Computer Science is preferred; combination of education will be considered.
- The candidate should possess a good understanding of networking
- Candidates for this position should have at least 3 - 5 years of computer experience.
