Certified Surgical Technologist, First Shift, Surgery Department
The Surgery Department Certified Surgical Technologist will support West Chester Hospital's operating room (OR) and Level III Trauma Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs. The major focus is on the scrub role but may also include an assistant circulator role under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Qualifications
Education:High school diploma or GED minimum required. Associate degree in surgical technology, preferred degree
Years of Experience: 6 months-2 years of active experience
Required Certifications:Must be certified by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) and maintain that certification.
Required Skills and Knowledge:Computer literacy; demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
Expected starting salary range for this position is between $23.60--$29.18
The actual pay rate for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant's years of experience, unique skills and abilities, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, and other requirements for the position.

Unit Details
- Management is very hands on when it comes to helping hone your skills.
- Even though there is an on-call schedule, there are less here than at other UC sites.
- The certified surgical technologist needs to demonstrate knowledge and expertise in a variety of surgical specialties and the initiative to continually expand and refine clinical skills. It is also someone who identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication, or operates equipment safely.

- Is available to the Perioperative Team Manager and Daily Operations Manager for assignment as needed to meet the operational needs of Perioperative Services. Is able to second circulate under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse.
- Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
- Preparation of the surgical suite and advanced understanding of the procedures being performed. Ensures correct counting of instruments, needles and/or sharps before during and at the closure of the patient. Maintains and ensures operational readiness of instruments and equipment, departmental supplies, and sterilized items. Checks for outdated equipment and reports as needed.
- Knowledge of advanced surgical techniques for the team on which he/she is based, plus an ability to move between teams with ease. This may include transplant, trauma, vascular or robotics, neuro and spine and complex orthopedics procedures.
- Knowledge related to emergency situations and ability to assist or first scrub on advanced team related procedures and has been oriented and proficient in first scrubbing a trauma and can take call without problems or issues.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills in relation to anticipating the needs of the surgeon and resident/fellow and how to incorporate the learner into the procedure, facilitating a good learning experience. The must also be able to precept other Surgical Technologist's and/or other scrub personnel as needed in the procedures of his/her team and to help as a resource if called upon.
- Ensures and maintains competency on all new equipment and technology, and can act as a super user if needed.
- Establishes and maintains positive customer service relationships. Anticipates customer needs to continually improve service and quality of patient care. Respects the patients' right to privacy, dignity, and safety.
- Participating member on Unit Based Council or other hospital-based committee.
