Clinical RN Supervisor, Second Shift, Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)

UC Health is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) as a Supervisor for the Clinical Decision Unit at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The Supervisor will primarily work 3p-11:30p, with some variable hours to support the department as needed.

The RN Supervisor will support UCMC's Clinical Decision Unit, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care, and according to policy and procedures.

Unit Details:
  • The Clinical Decision Unit provides observation care to patients from every specialty who do not meet inpatient criteria for admission.
  • Our newly renovated and expanded CDU is slated to open Fall 2024. The new unit will help meet growing demands and provide more efficient and streamlined care.
  • The CDU is a team focused unit that strives to create a friendly and supportive environment.
  • Nurses in the CDU have the ability to cross-train with the Emergency Department.


Responsibilities

The Clinical RN Supervisor is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The Supervisor requires knowledge regarding operational leadership of shift including patient flow and assignment/adjustment of resources to meet dynamic changing needs throughout the shift. The Clinical RN Supervisor will actively identify opportunities for improvement in patient satisfaction, perform trials, and report back to leadership on results.
  • Supervises staff assigned to their unit and demonstrates the ability to coach and mentor staff.
  • Leads and implements operational improvement initiatives and assures compliance via staff coaching and mentoring.
  • Identifies needs for specific equipment and ensures adequate and properly functioning equipment and supplies are available for patient care.
  • Ensures shift practice complies with state and federal medical laws (EMTALA, HIPAA, and House Bill 316).
  • Maintains hospital-wide and department-specific nursing competencies and completes annual competencies in the required time frame.
  • Collaborates with the Department Educator and/or provides orientation and educational needs identified in the department.
  • Actively involves and engages staff in departmental performance improvement (PI) activities according to the department PI plan.
  • Provides immediate counseling for staff when specific behaviors or incidents negatively affect patient care or the general work environment.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
  • Minimum of two to four years of clinical experience in area of clinical specialty.
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Ohio.
