Dispatcher II, First Shift, Public Safety Dispatch Center

UC Health is hiring a full-time Dispatcher II for the Public Safety Dispatch Center department. This is a first shift position with UC Health, LLC.

The Dispatcher II will support Public Safety Dispatch Center delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care and according to policy and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

Dispatchers receive, screen and evaluate incoming emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio calls; evaluates the nature of the call requesting public safety, fire, medical, or other emergency and non-emergency services and relays to appropriate safety force personnel either within or outside of UC Health.

Dispatchers must exercise reasonable independent judgment to determine priorities for service response in accordance with established procedures and protocols to coordinate on-site activities of clinical and safety forces to ensure efficient and effective support services; and notifies and coordinates response with outside agencies as needed.

• Monitors and prioritizes medical and non-medical telephone lines; monitors clinical alerts, plant operations and maintenance alarms, weather alert systems, security systems, and radio traffic.
• Monitors closed circuit cameras, access control equipment, panic alarms, fire systems, building maintenance alarm panels, and dispatches appropriate units to the location(s) as required.
• Receives and screens telephone calls, radio calls, collects information regarding situation. Routes and prioritizes incoming calls including patient information, paging, directory assistance, and emergency calls.
• Serves as liaison to deliver, receive, and relay radio transmissions from field personnel to appropriate staff or other agencies.
• Coordinates on site activities of safety and clinical forces to ensure efficient and effective resolution of all emergency and non-emergency situations.
• Activates emergency notifications via the mass notification system as required.
• Performs paging and on-call services; and provides programming and testing of pagers.
• Maintains and distributes the master on-call schedules.
• Exercises sound judgment under stressful circumstances and quickly analyzes situations to form action plans and viable conclusions.
• Communicates effectively, concisely, and articulately in oral and written form; demonstrates excellent listening skills and diction.
• Handles sensitive inquiries and information with strict confidentiality.
• Enters or retrieves data; provides needed dispatch records and/or recordings; demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times and streamline work processes.
• Operates a computer aided dispatch/virtual paging system and computerized electronics communication equipment. Processes outgoing calls including long distance, international, and conference calls.
• Maintains current knowledge of agency policies and procedures; public relations; local, state, and federal laws relating to law enforcement; communications; and FCC rules and regulations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree preferred.
• APCO Basic Telecommunicator I certification is required within one year of hire.
• CPR and AED certification is required within 1 year of employment.
• 3 - 5 Years equivalent experience required; 6 - 10 Years equivalent experience preferred.
• Proficient with personal computers and Windows-based applications including Microsoft Office and computer aided dispatch software (CAD).
• Proficient with the operation of a variety of paging and emergency notification equipment.
• Ability to carry out detailed and complicated procedures and instructions according to standard operating procedure; ability to remain calm and effectively communicate under pressure and unusual circumstances; and ability to multitask on a consistent basis.
• Exercise reasonable independent judgment to determine priorities for service response in accordance with established procedures and protocols.
• Exercise sound judgment under stressful circumstances; communicate effectively, concisely, and articulately in oral form; develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, other agency representatives and general public; handle sensitive inquiries and contacts with officials and general public; demonstrate excellent hearing and diction; analyze situations, establish facts and formulate viable conclusions; document all activities performed.
