Exercise Physiologist, Full-Time, First Shift, Internal Med-Cardio Pulmonary Rehab
UC Health is hiring a Full-Time Exercise Physiologist for the Internal Med-Cardio Pulmonary Rehab department for the first shift for the UC Medical Center.
The Exercise Physiologist is an individual educated in exercise science who has specific acquired knowledge and clinic skills in exercise testing, exercise prescription, exercise training, and lifestyle management of a group of clients. She/he interacts with other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide continuity of care to clients. The person in this position must be competent in caring for adult and geriatric patients in the clinical population served. The exercise specialist/physiologist identifies individual fitness needs, establishes exercise guidelines for patients and participants, monitors participant use of wellness equipment for safe and proper technique, and leads wellness exercise classes. The exercise specialist/physiologist performs basic fitness assessments within his/her scope of practice and counsels community participants on appropriate exercise programs. The exercise specialist/physiologist demonstrates behaviors reflective of the mission and core values of the Drake Center as well as those specific to required competencies for successful job performance.

Responsibilities
- Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
- Assists in development and implementation of treatment plan in collaboration with the treatment team. Adheres to department safety standards. Develops appropriate treatment programs to progress towards goals and progresses programs appropriately. Counsels' patients and families regarding assessment results, treatment plans/goals, and carryover strategies.
- Provides individualized care for patients and community participants both in phase II and phase III programs. Monitors and observes participants and identifies any inappropriate responses to exercise. Terminates exercise as necessary. Plans and educates participants regarding home exercise programs and use of equipment. Initially assess community participants to assist with development of a safe and appropriate exercise program based on the participants' needs/goals. Prepares and adjusts individual exercise plans on a regular basis. Leads exercises in a clear and easy to follow manner. Demonstrates correct body position and proper use of equipment to prevent injury. Recognizes an emergency situation, notifies appropriate personnel and assists with emergency care accordingly.
- Consistently achieves benchmark of 90% compliance with criteria from chart audits. Completes all patient related documentation, including encounter forms/charge sheets, legibly and in a timely manner. Complies with all organizational, department and regulatory standards. Provides daily maintenance to provide a clean and safe environment at all times. Performs record keeping, registration and appropriate billing for patients and community users of the aquatic and wellness department.
- Adheres to Organizational, department, and Human Resources initiatives and policies. Accepts at least one student per year according to department standards, needs and demand. Demonstrates appropriate leadership and supervision of students, volunteers and supportive/assistive personnel. Coordinates scheduling of community participants. Assists with record keeping and participant registration. Assists with administrative/secretarial responsibilities as necessary, including filing, typing, mailing, etc. Demonstrates time management skills by completing expected work during regularly scheduled work hours, arriving to meetings on time, completing assigned tasks by deadlines, etc. Attends department meetings and in-services and demonstrates professional behavior. Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and uses supplies resourcefully. Demonstrates an awareness of budget goals in terms of revenue and expenses and makes recommendations for cost containment. Promotes a positive work atmosphere.
- Demonstrates open, inclusive, respectful communication. Participates in problem resolution not just problem identification. Uses chain of communication appropriately to exchange information and communicate issues. Collaborates with physicians, nursing, and others as needed to provide the highest quality care to patients and residents. Provides updated and accurate information regarding patient status at care conferences. Assures smooth transitions for patients between levels of care. Demonstrates appropriate communication to customers, team members, supervisors, etc. Revises communication style to meet communication needs of current audience and environment.
- Completes all annual reviews, annual competencies, and all mandatory requirements to maintain CPR, or any other required certification by due date. Participates in department performance improvement initiatives as assigned and is able to articulate outcomes and improvements. Participates in educational in-services/opportunities to advance knowledge and skills. Timely presentation of materials to associates to share knowledge and communicate current activities of committees. Active participation in mentoring and orientation of fellow associates and students as indicated.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree - Exercise Science or related discipline, Preferred Degree: Master's Degree - Exercise Physiology or related discipline
- Preferred Certifications: BLS ACLs, ACSM or AACVPR certifications
