Laboratory Supervisor, First Shift, Blood Bank/Microbiology/Toxicology/Precision Medicine Departments

UC Health is hiring a full-time Laboratory Supervisor for the blood bank, microbiology, toxicology, and precision medicine departments for first shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Under the guidance of the Lab Manager/Lab Director, the Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Lab Support Techs (LSTs), Laboratory Technicians, and Technical Associates (TAs), with regards to scheduling, PTO requests, corrective action and performance review. The Laboratory Supervisor provides technical expertise supporting specimen collection, specimen processing and customer service functions in the laboratory, and serves as the primary trainer for laboratory support personnel and external customers.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities
  • Supervises Lab Support department (Pre-Analytics: Phlebotomy, Processing) including personnel and workflow. Ensures timely delivery of all pre-analytic services by vigilant monitoring of pending orders (MCP, Horizon, EPIC, Pending reports). Performs duties of LST/TA/Laboratory Technician, including phlebotomy and processing, as workflow dictates.
  • Serves as primary trainer for LSTs/TAs/Laboratory Technician in fulfillment of phlebotomy and processing job duties. Supports training for all other lab associates and patient care associates in phlebotomy/processing duties as indicated.
  • Ensures proper communication of lab support functions with all lab associates. Actively participates in staff department meetings, including daily shift huddles. Conducts Lab Support meetings in support of Lab Administration team when indicated.
  • Assists Lab Director/Manager with Performance Improvement activities. Consults with both internal and external customers to assess needs and to ensure patient safety goals are met. Recommends and implements changes to work processes in coordination with Technical staff. Assists Lab Administration with CAP regulations, including but not limited to, policy/procedure review and compliance, adherence to employee safety regulations and employee file maintenance.
  • Participates in interviews and provides recommendations of hiring of associates. Conducts on-going assessment of LST/TA/Laboratory Technician performance. Prepares annual performance evaluations and reviews with Lab Director. Assists/conducts on-going assessments, annual performance evaluations and corrective action as indicated.
  • Provides management support of Lab Support department by overseeing PTO requests, scheduling, time/attendance reporting and inventory monitoring.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum Required: Associate's Degree in Medical Technology.
  • Preferred: (ASCP) or equivalent for support of the technical staff.
  • Minimum Required: 3 - 5 Years equivalent experience.
