Responsibilities

The Performance Improvement Manager will p rovide administrative leadership; oversight and support for the on-going services

Program Management 30%
  • Provide leadership, and functional guidance for a specific program. Serve as an internal resource, consultant and liaison to patients/families, staff, physicians/faculty, and/or the community for issues related to the program. Direct the on-going development, implementation, coordination, marketing, and evaluation of program outcomes. Establish policies and ensures the program is compliant with all external regulations and accreditation agencies. Manage the financial resource and provide leadership, strategic planning, marketing and overall operational administration to ensure programmatic efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Monitor and respond to situations that affect daily operations. Assist in the development, maintenance and oversight of program policies and procedures. Provide input on planning, evaluating and/or implementing programs and/or procedures. Plan, direct, schedule and/or manage resources and/or personnel.
  • Effectively demonstrate communication skills related to conveying relevant information. Develop and maintain efficient internal communication processes to support the activities of the department/program. Openly communicate across many departments regarding clinical, patient care, physical and/or material resources. Keep key leadership, administrative staff and other stakeholders fully informed of projected and actual developments in a timely manner. Prioritize multiple requests for information. Assemble and distribute material for project communications if necessary.
  • Collaborate in the preparation, coordination and evaluation of the annual fiscal operating budget and capital equipment budget, possibly including evaluating new sources of revenue and recommending cost reductions and efficiencies. May monitor or manage accounts. May coordinate payments, interactions, and/or paperwork.

Coaching and Development 25%
  • Coach and/or mentor others, formally or informally. Support the professional growth of staff. May assume leadership in developing, evaluating, and/or improving processes or procedures. May manage direct reports or lead a team/work group.
  • Accurately assessing others' strengths and developmental needs; giving informative and constructive feedback in a manner that enhances others' motivation; providing challenging assignments and opportunities for development; helping others overcome setback

Performance Improvement 35%
  • Sound understanding of concepts of quality improvement; capable of developing, implementing, monitoring and acting on quality assessment and improvement controls
  • Be an expert resource for how to use improvement methodology in healthcare.
  • Create structured learning opportunities, but also, just-in-time modules and online material for focused delivery and maximum learning.
  • Continually work to create the UC Health Way, the overall performance improvement system of how we get work done and identify opportunities for implementation.

Qualifications

Minimum Required:

EDUCATION:
  • Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in Clinical, Engineering, Business, Public Health or a related field
  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Clinical, Engineering, Business, Public Health or a related field

LICENSE & CERTIFICATION:
  • Formal performance improvement training desirable
  • Data Management formal training desirable

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum Required: 5 years related experience
  • Preferred:
    • 2-3 years equivalent experience in healthcare
    • Work experience as an operational leader (supervisor, manager, etc.) is highly desired.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • The most important background for this position is a history of using performance improvement tools to change actual outcomes.
  • In order to have organizational credibility a BS degree in a related field is an educational requirement. An advanced degree is desirable, but not essential.
  • Experience in the following software applications is required:
    • Spreadsheets (Excel, etc.)
    • Power Point
    • Word Processing (Word, etc.)
  • Must have detailed knowledge of performance improvement philosophy, methodology and tools. An excellent understanding of hospital organization and measurement is desirable.
  • Must present a professional manner, have good verbal/written communication skills; be able to maintain confidentiality of all data. Demonstrate ability to lead and coach teams with across a wide variety of skill levels (staff to Sr. Exec, technicians, nurses, physicians) as well as across the full spectrum of UC Health functions (Ambulatory, Hospital, Business, etc.)
  • The ideal candidate will be comfortable and excellent at organizing data collection and use, coaching teams, teaching improvement concepts and growing others to drive tremendous and transformative change. They will help to create the UC Health way.
