Job Description

Location: UC Health Physicians-WCH South
Department: Surgery - Vascular
Hours: Full Time, 40 Hours/Week
Shift: First Shift

Observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress, which provides the basis for care planning and intervention within specialized area of care.



Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.

Explain procedures and treatments to patients.

Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.

Prepare equipment and aid physicians during treatment and examination of patients.

Maintain awareness of comfort and safety needs of patients.

Observe patients, record significant conditions and reactions, and notify supervisor or physician of patient ' s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.

Take temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.

Respond to life-saving techniques based on nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.

Document nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients.

Initiate a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by physician policy including patient and family instructions.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in Science or related field.
Preferred: Master's Degree. Certification through American Society for Clinical Pathology required.
Minimum Required: 1-2 years equivalent experience.
Preferred: 3-5 years equivalent experience.
