Pharmacy Director

Job Description

The Director of Pharmacy has 24-hour responsibility and accountability for the direction, coordination, and management of their care team. The Director is responsible for achieving and maintaining competent services guided by relative regulatory bodies. The Director is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of quality, safety, experience and efficiency operational strategies consistent with UC Health goals.

Responsibilities

Performance/Driving for Results.

Measures outcomes objectively. Collaboratively works with direct reports to set meaningful performance objectives and identifies measures for evaluating goal achievement. Develops short and long-term goals for maintaining UC Health and departmental quality, safety, experience and efficiency outcomes, and related Performance Improvement initiatives. Promotes excellence in programs and processes that facilitate a patient centered approach throughout the healthcare continuum. Ensures compliance to federal, state, and local regulatory standards including the applicable Boards of Pharmacy Administrator on call as assigned; demonstrates competence in Emergency Management.

Leadership

Knowledge of clinical versus management theory and selecting the appropriate leadership style for the circumstance. Demonstrates Emotional Intelligence that establishes and sustains trusting relationships by accurately perceiving and interpreting one's own and others emotions and behavior in the context of the environment. Ability to execute operational plan and strategies within divisional areas of responsibility. Maintains full accountability for specific areas of responsibility. Creates accountability that ensures those responsible for implementing an initiative have role clarity and accountability for required actions as well as the authority to act in a way consistent with organizational values.

Human Resources

Management and alignment of talent Accountable for effective retention and recruitment of qualified staff. Meet turnover and retention goals. Facilitates the development of a diverse workforce through recruitment, promotion, and cultivation of talent. Develop and review standard policies and procedures, job descriptions, and competencies as necessary for areas of responsibility. Administers personnel policies, hires, approves promotions, and transfers. Ensures employee grievances are heard within the timeline determined by HR and hospital administration.

Relationships/Customer Service

Ensure a culture of service that values the mission, vision, beliefs, attitudes, diversity and customs embodied at UC Health. Associate engagement. Monitors satisfaction and identifies opportunities for improvement to bridge gaps in performance and associate engagement. Participates in selecting targeted areas and develops action plans for quantifiable improvement in associate engagement scores. Patient Satisfaction. Monitors satisfaction and identifies opportunities for improvement to bridge gaps in performance and customer needs. Identifies targeted areas and develops action plans for quantifiable improvement in patient satisfaction scores. Collaborates with nursing leadership, physician leadership, and other department leadership to create opportunities to acknowledge outstanding customer service by members of the hospital team. Helps direct reports identify their strengths and leverage them for greater performance and contribution. Guides development. Business Acumen/Operations

Establishes and commits to a long-term business strategy after considering clinical and financial data, resources, market drivers and organizational needs. Executes strategic growth opportunities. Financial Management. Facilitates the development and monitoring of operating and capital budgets for all applicable cost centers. Meets financial goals and contribution margins. Meets budget entry deadlines. Benchmarking. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team and hospital administration to identify regional and national benchmarks for areas of responsibility. Plans and provides oversight for managing to benchmarks such as staffing levels, productivity, quality measures, costs, length of stay, and satisfaction. Develops business plans and proposals for programs/initiatives in consideration of mission and profitability. Collaborates with Managers and multidisciplinary team to develop standardized operating protocols and processes that support evidence based practice. Actively serves on medical, hospital, and UC Health committees.

Project Management.

Balances multiple projects at the same time and able to delegate when appropriate. Develops, maintains, implements, and coordinates a safe medication use process Collaborates with Vice President Pharmacy Services and other pharmacy leaders for standardized practices and aligns the long range planning activities of pharmacy services Participate and provide representation on the UC Health Drug Policy Development Committee and in appropriate system-wide pharmacy committees ensuring follow-up of approved actions. Supports UC Health Pharmacy Residency Programs and education of pharmacy students.

Qualifications

Minimum Required: Master's Degree - In relevant field (Pharmacy or Pharm D.)

Completion of an ASHP Pharmacy Residency combination of education .

Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Ohio and surrounding states as applicable.

Minimum Required: 3 - 5 Years equivalent experience

Preferred: 6 - 10 Years equivalent experience
