UC Health is hiring a full-time Senior Associate General Counsel for Legal Services

The Senior Associate General Counsel is responsible for providing counsel, oversight, and management of employment and labor relations matters arising out of the operations of UC Health. This includes, but is not limited to, managing administrative charges and investigations, employment-related lawsuits, and labor relations functions encompassing union representation issues, arbitration, labor contract negotiations, and mediation of disputes involving labor contracts. This position will oversee outside counsel retained to assist UC Health on labor and employment matters and serve as a liaison with labor counsel for third-party stakeholders such as the University of Cincinnati and UC Physicians, Inc. The Senior Associate General Counsel shall provide counsel and legal advice to senior leadership, management, and Human Resources personnel regarding employee issues and compliance. The Senior Associate General Counsel will assist with the development and review of employment related policies and contracts, employee benefits, training materials relating to employment and labor law compliance, and will assist with other legal matters as assigned by the Senior Vice President & General Counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and prepares responses to administrative charges (EEOC, OCRC, DOL, NLRB) and ensures the provision of responsive and effective legal services relating to all aspects of employment-related lawsuits.
  • Provides analysis and legal counsel on specific employee matters, including corrective action and termination, and provides information and advice on a range of issues related to the National Labor Relations Act, Title VII, USERRA, the Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, ERISA, other federal, state and local employment laws, benefits plans, and executive compensation.
  • Personally provides or ensures the provision of responsive and effective legal serves relating to labor contract administration and negotiations including arbitration and mediation sessions with the labor unions and union representation issues.
  • Reviews, recommends, develops, and assists in implementation or revision of Human Resource policies and procedures in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manages outside counsel retained to assist UC Health on labor and employment matters and serves as a liaison with labor counsel for third party stakeholders such as the University of Cincinnati and UC Physicians, Inc.
  • Develops and provides educational and training programs and materials regarding employment and labor law compliance and developments that impact UC Health.
  • Provides legal analysis of proposed legislation which may impact the organization, as directed by the SVP & General.
  • Prepares, reviews, and negotiates employment-related contracts, or other contracts as assigned.
  • At the direction of the SVP & General Counsel, attends meetings, participates on committees, and performs other functions and duties which are customarily performed by in-house counsel.


Qualifications

  • Minimum Required: Juris Doctor - Law | Juris Doctor degree from accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in in the State of Ohio. Licensed to practice law and in good standing in in the Commonwealth of Kentucky preferred.
  • 16 to 20 years of legal experience with at least 10 years of practicing in the area of employment and labor relations preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting and experience with compliance and/or regulatory functions preferred.
