Staff Accountant, Accounting

Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Accounting Services, assists in the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements by recording financial transactions in the general ledger system, reconciling and analyzing balance sheet and income statement accounts, and resolving unreconciled items on a timely basis. The role is also a key contributor to process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

Account Reconciliations
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of required accounting, internal controls, and applicable processes/procedures related to assigned accounts
  • Assume ownership and responsibility for accuracy of assigned accounts
  • Timely analyze and reconcile various balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure accuracy of account balances.
  • Ensure all reconciliations meet established UC Health reconciliation standards.

Monthly Close
  • Timely prepare journal entries during month-end close to record financial activity
  • Ensure all journal entries meet established UC Health journal entry standards
  • Timely prepare month-end rollforwards/schedules as assigned
  • Perform variance analyses for balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure accuracy of account balances

Process Improvement
  • Continually review processes and procedures and identify potential improvements
  • Assist in developing plans and implementing process improvements by working within and outside department

CIP and Fixed Assets
  • Prepare monthly CIP Packets, which includes interaction with outside departments
  • Enter new assets and/or disposals in Oracle

Other Non-close Tasks
  • Prepare audit work papers and related requests for the annual financial statement audit
  • Complete other projects and special assignments as directed


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting. Basic understanding of GAAP and internal controls. Basic organization, time management, communication, and problem-solving skills. Intermediate Excel/Word skills. Highly attentive to details and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. 1 - 2 Years equivalent experience
