The Technologist Associate performs waived and moderately complex lab testing, technical support duties, pre-analytical processing of specimens, registers, accessions, labels and distributes specimens, and performs clerical support duties.

- Engages in population appropriate communication.
- Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
- Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
- Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
- Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
- Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
- Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms.
- Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
- Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
- Performs waived and moderately complex testing as defined by CLIA.
- Performs and reports testing and quality control according to established protocols, including evaluation of specimen acceptability.
- Handles problems appropriately and exhibits good judgment.
- Provides support functions to technologists including the loading and maintaining of instruments, making up of reagents, thawing, pooling, importing, and issuing of blood products, and maintenance and function checks. Notifies appropriate person(s) as needed.
- Maintains inventory levels and stocks supplies.
- Operates, maintains, and repairs clinical laboratory equipment within the scope of training including routine preventive maintenance, calibrations, and safety checks.
- Keeps appropriate persons informed of instrument problems and resolutions.
- Competently registers, enters insurance information, accessions, triages and processes specimens in preparation for testing and transit.
- Follows established guidelines for centrifugation and aliquoting of samples.
- Uses computer programs to track specimen transport and minimize lost specimens.
- Performs and records all quality control procedures.
- Evaluates the results of quality control and implements corrective action within scope of training.
- Recognizes instrument and equipment malfunctions. Keeps appropriate persons informed of problems and issues.
- Provides laboratory customer service to include request for add-ons, specimen collection information, phlebotomy requests, result inquiry, etc.
- Completes all mandatory competencies and training modules; performs regular review and compliance with all department and hospital policies and procedures; participates in continuing education opportunities.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum Required: High school diploma or GED
- Preferred: Associate's Degree
- Preferred: Laboratory experience or college science
- Preferred: Knowledge of specimen requirements, familiarity with laboratory terminology, laboratory assay schedules and expected turnaround times, keyboarding skills
- Required: Ability to read and comprehend written information, ability to effectively and efficiently perform a variety of job duties in a stressful, fast paced environment
