UC Health is hiring a PRN communication specialist to join our Air Care & Mobile Care team!
The Communications Specialist is responsible for coordinating and facilitating communication between transport teams and referring providers for both air and ground medical transport. They triage patients to determine the appropriate level of care, track vehicles, and ensure patient and team safety during transport. The Specialist collaborates with various healthcare and safety personnel to provide high-quality, patient-centered care, adhering to medical transport and aviation regulations.

- Air Care & Mobile Care has provided the Greater Cincinnati area with specialized medical transport services for patients in our community for over 35 years.
- Air Care & Mobile Care is the only service in the region to be accredited infour levelsof medical transport by theCommission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems.
- Air Care & Mobile Care specializes in caring for and transporting critically injured and sick patients, wherever they may be, by bringing the world-class care of UC Medical Center to the patient.
Responsibilities
- Prioritizes safety in communication and dispatch decisions, ensuring the well-being of the transport team and patient.
- Monitors and tracks all transports, communicates emergencies according to protocols, and assists with weather interpretation for pilots and drivers.
- Maintains proficiency in radio frequencies, navigation techniques, GPS, and department safety procedures.
- Ensures a safe, clean, and organized work environment in the communications center, with a strong emphasis on safety.
- Facilitates communication between referring providers and transport teams, determining the appropriate level of care and dispatching the correct team.
- Triages calls to align transport response with the required skill level and urgency, ensuring critical patient information is communicated effectively.
- Tracks all transport units, collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure the safety of both the patient and transport team.
- Leads regional disaster ambulance transport coordination, ensuring efficient patient distribution across hospitals while maintaining privacy and operational policies.
- Accurately documents transport data, participates in quality assurance initiatives, and maintains necessary clinical competencies.
- Maintains computer literacy, inputs data accurately into dispatch systems, and adheres to aviation vendor regulations by attending required training.
- Applies knowledge of aviation and ground EMS operations, safety standards, and regulations to guide dispatch decisions.
- Collaborates with department leadership to ensure adequate staffing, responds to operational changes, and maintains flexibility in scheduling.
- Attends meetings regularly, completes assigned projects, and stays informed by reviewing communications and adhering to the organization's Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Demonstrates punctuality, takes responsibility for operational decision-making during shifts, and actively seeks information related to department operations.
- Consistently embodies UC Health PRIIDE values in all interactions, supports service excellence in Patient and Family Centered Care, and participates in customer service initiatives and outreach efforts.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED; Minimum Required
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree; Preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of EMT/Paramedic experience (3 years preferred) or
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant emergency dispatching experience.
