Acupuncture Therapist

Job Description

Provides routine acupuncture and Eastern medicine therapy services to UC Health Integrative Medicine patients/clients. An acupuncturist may perform or prescribe the use of acupuncture, acupressure, nutrition, diet, and additional practices of Eastern medicine as delineated under Ohio acupuncture licensure to promote, maintain, and restore health. Work with Integrative Medicine to promote patient/participant wellness. This position will be located in the new Blood Cancer Healing Center at least 50% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • PATIENT POPULATION - Engages in population-appropriate communication. Knows growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/families regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population-related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication, or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
  • Provides acupuncture and Eastern medicine services to UC Health IM patients/clients that are safe, appropriate, and effective. Practices within the employee's scope of practice Maintains patient/client confidentiality and sensitivity during all patient/client interactions; reports any unusual patient/client interactions to supervisor immediately.
  • Effectively communicates with the UC Health IM interdisciplinary team. Attends and contributes to Integrative Medicine staff meetings. Consult with appropriate treatment staff regarding treatment plans when necessary. Educates faculty, associates, patients, and the community about the benefits of wellness services.
  • Effectively communicates and explains procedures appropriate to patient/client needs and preferences.
  • Performs and documents initial health history, assessment, and evaluation of patient/client. Performs and documents all sessions performed according to established guidelines.
  • Develops, reviews, updates, and implements educational materials to meet the needs of patients/clients, the general public, and professionals.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

• Minimum Required: Master's Degree
• Minimum Required: Licensed Acupuncturist in the State of Ohio
• Minimum Required: 1 - 2 Years equivalent experience
• Preferred: 3 - 5 Years equivalent experience
• Licensed acupuncturist certified by the OH state licensure board. The requirement includes three years of education at one of the nationwide schools certified by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and passing a state exam.
