Assistant General Counsel, Legal Services

UC Health is hiring a full-time Assistant General Counsel for the Legal Services department at the UC Health Business Center.

The Assistant General Counsel will be responsible for contract review, negotiation and preparation for all UC Health departments and functions, including corporate, hospital, and physician divisions. This responsibility includes engaging with cross-functional teams to develop and adjust procedures, as needed based on the regulatory environment and the company's business plans, to facilitate accomplishing corporate goals while complying with regulations. The Assistant General Counsel will also assist in other legal matters as assigned by the Senior Associate General Counsel and/or SVP & Chief Legal Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, reviews, revises, and negotiates contracts for the corporate, hospital, and physician divisions.
  • Reviews contracts and proposals for compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provides analysis and counsel on matters of healthcare related legal and policy issues, including regulatory and accreditation standards, and the federal fraud and abuse laws, as directed by the Senior Associate General Counsel or Chief Legal Officer.
  • Provides legal analysis of proposed legislation which may impact the organization, as directed by the Senior Associate General Counsel and/or SVP & Chief Legal Officer.
  • Provides legal counsel and coordinates with organization leadership to provide educational and training programs on selected topics, including Stark and anti-kickback statute issues, as directed by the Senior Associate General Counsel and/or SVP & Chief Legal Officer.
  • At the direction of the Senior Associate General Counsel and/or SVP & Chief Legal Officer, attends meetings, participates on committees, and performs other functions and duties which are customarily performed by in-house counsel.


Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in the State of Ohio required; however corporate counsel registration in Ohio may be considered if licensed to practice law and in good standing in another state.
  • 1-4 years of legal experience practicing business law preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting and experience with compliance and/or regulatory functions preferred.
