Certified Therapeutic Recreation (CTR), PRN, Varied Shifts, Inpatient Rehab Services

UC Health is hiring a PRN Certified Therapeutic Recreation for varied shifts at the Daniel Drake Center.

The Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist will provide therapeutic recreation services to adult patients including evaluation, treatment planning, and implementation of an individualized treatment program and related documentation and communication.

Responsibilities

PATIENT POPULATION
  • Engages in population appropriate communication.
  • Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
  • Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
  • Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
  • Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.

Screening and Assessment
  • Screen patients as indicated.
  • Complete a functional assessment of the patient using appropriate therapeutic assessment tool.
  • Develop individualized treatment programs consistent with patient's diagnosis, status, and goals.
  • Establish a plan of care that includes realistic and measurable goals in relation to the patient's goals, diagnosis, prognosis, learning ability of patient and caregiver, physical/mental status, and anticipated lifestyle.
  • Make recommendations for discharge, including appropriate referrals.

Treatment
  • Develop and implement an individualized treatment program in collaboration with the treatment team that is consistent with patient diagnosis, status, and goals.
  • Develop and implement patient activities in collaboration with other team members as appropriate.
  • Identify patients appropriate for activities based on functional status.
  • Lead/co-lead therapeutic groups and individual activities for patients.
  • Monitor patient response to activities and modify plan as needed.
  • Recommend and procure necessary equipment for the patient as needed.

Documentation
  • Document patient's evaluation, status, progress, and discharge per approved procedures.
  • Documentation is completed within the appropriate time frame.
  • Submit reports and statistics using approved tools or software systems.
  • Meet department productivity standards.
  • Adhere to hospital/department policies.
  • Comply with all pertinent regulatory standards.

Education
  • Considers the learning needs of the patient and provides education pertinent with established goals.
  • Actively mentor and supervise therapeutic recreation students and appropriately utilize teaching techniques.
  • Develop and maintain a student training manual.
  • Participate in performance improvement programs; able to articulate outcomes and improvements.
  • Participate in educational in-services and opportunities to advance clinical knowledge and competencies.
  • Completes mandatory education per hospital/department requirements.
  • Participate in the orientation process of new associates and students.
  • Serve on program development task forces as appropriate.

Other
  • Order and maintain supplies for use in therapeutic activities for patients.
  • Adheres to UC Health initiatives, including the PRIIDE values.
  • Demonstrate time management skills.
  • Actively participate in department team/staff meetings.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment; follow infection control guidelines.
  • Maintains confidentiality and abides by HIPAA guidelines.
  • Utilizes hospital information systems appropriately.
  • Promotes a positive atmosphere.


Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation Degree from an accredited school
  • License/Certification:
    • Certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation and CPR Certification required.
