The Clinical Shift Supervisor assumes the responsibility for ensuring excellent patient care is being delivered, maintaining expeditious patient flow with a focus on customer service, and supervision of nursing staff. The Clinical Shift Supervisor will provide input on staff evaluations and complete evaluations for their regular staff cohort. The Clinical Shift Supervisor will also assist with cost containment, and manage all employees to do the same. The position requires knowledge of leadership and effective interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

The Clinical Supervisor requires knowledge regarding operational leadership of shift including patient flow and assignment/adjustment of resources to meet dynamic changing needs throughout the shift. The Clinical Supervisor will actively identify opportunities for improvement in patient satisfaction, perform trials and report back to leadership on results.
  • Supervises staff assigned to their unit or center of excellence and demonstrates the ability to coach and mentor staff.
  • Leads and implements operational improvement initiatives and assures compliance via staff coaching and mentoring.
  • Identifies needs for specific equipment and ensures adequate and properly functioning equipment and supplies are available for patient care.
  • Ensures shift practice is in compliance with state and federal medical laws (EMTALA, HIPAA, and House Bill 316).
  • Maintains hospital-wide and department-specific nursing competencies and completes annual competencies in the required time frame.
  • Collaborates with the Department Educator and/or provides for orientation and educational needs identified in the department.
  • Actively involves and engages staff in departmental performance improvement (PI) activities according to the department PI plan.
  • Provides immediate counseling for staff when specific behaviors or incidents negatively affect patient care or the general work environment.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Ohio
  • Specialty specific certifications, preferred
  • Minimum of two to four years of clinical experience in area of clinical specialty.
