Job Description

The Research Billing Analyst will coordinate and monitor research billing activities and practices for all UC Health and UC clinical research entities. The Research Billing Analyst will also be responsible for building research support tools within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and other applications. The Research Billing Analyst will also comply with institutional research and billing policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as governmental regulations regarding responsible conduct of research, research ethics and integrity, and protection of the safety and welfare of human subjects (including DHHS, FDA, and IRB regulations, HIPAA privacy, etc.


The Research Billing Analyst role is responsible for ensuring proper billing practices for clinical research activities at UC Health. UC Health provides services and facilities to support clinical research.

Therefore, it is imperative that UC Health exercise proper billing practices to prevent common pitfalls associated with clinical research billing. By supporting current research billing processes and developing future tools, this role will serve as an integral touchpoint at UC Health for the clinical research community. This role will help ensure that UC Health is conducting compliant billing practices for research.

Utilize Coverage Analysis determinations to generate encounter documentation and billing calendars used in the conduct of clinical research. Assist research team members in setting up and maintaining appropriate billing and tracking processes for research related charges in the appropriate software programs (Epic, CTMS). Assist hospital and professional billing teams in research charge review activities. Assist in process improvement initiatives related to research billing. Contribute to the development of educational resources and conduct training seminars about research billing practices. Assist with research billing compliance investigations, risk assessment, and mitigation as necessary


3 - 5 years of recent experience in clinical billing, finance, accounting, or coding (preferably research-related). Minimum of 1 year of experience within a clinical research environment. Experience working with an Electronic Medical Records system. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

Experience with the Epic Research Module. Experience working within a Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS). Epic Research Module Certification.
