Job Description

UC Health is hiring a full-time Director of Nursing for Acute Care Medicine for the first shift at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Director of Nursing will deliver high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care and according to policy and procedures.

  • This director will be over the following units/areas: 3/4 Ridgeway (Acute Care Medicine), 7 NW (Medicine), 8E (Gastrointestinal), 8S (Integrated Medicine) and 8 NW (Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant).

The Nursing Director coordinates and directs the patient care and management activities in the Patient Care Services Division within the guidelines of the Joint Commission and State regulations. The Director is responsible for achieving and maintaining competent services with goals consistent with those of UC Health and Patient Care Services.
  • Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team and hospital administration to identify regional and national benchmarks in quality, cost, length of stay, and satisfaction.
  • Shares quality outcomes and measures to nursing leadership along with action plans for areas of improvement.
  • Develops short- and long-term goals for maintaining quality patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, staff development, and innovation in nursing practice and patient care
  • Assists managers and others in coaching and facilitating multidisciplinary teams to meet quality objectives Identifies opportunities for continuous quality initiatives.
  • Facilitates the development of a diverse workforce through recruitment, promotion, and cultivation of talent.
  • Conducts regular leadership rounds, identifying and collaborating with the patient care team in resolving issues and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Actively supports the shared governance structure by working collaboratively with the Professional Practice Organization to accomplish goals of the specific areas of responsibility and the hospital.
  • Conducts regular staff leadership meetings for areas of responsibility.
  • Facilitates the development and monitoring of operating and capital budget.
  • Plans and provides oversight for managing staffing levels and productivity targets for specific area.
  • Collaborates with nursing leadership, physician leadership, and department leadership to create opportunities to acknowledge outstanding customer service by members of the hospital team.
  • Represents nursing to hospital departments, medical staff, and the community.
  • Participates in formal and informal professional meetings, speaking, publication, and research.
  • Collaborates with Marketing in developing internal and external communication efforts and communicates media-worthy events to the public relations department in a timely manner.
  • Works with the appropriate teams in identifying and monitoring clinical benchmarks.
  • Maintains knowledge of local, state, national, and institutional budget policy and trends.


  • Masters degree in nursing, business administration or healthcare administration required.
  • Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Ohio.
  • BLS. ACLS. Certification in specialty area strongly preferred.
  • Three to five years equivalent experience required.
