Emergency Medical Technician, PRN, Air Care Mobile Care

UC Health is hiring a Emergency Medical Technician for the Air Care Mobile Care for PRN at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

To function in a role as a Critical Care transport Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) that is diverse and multi-faceted specific to the age groups served. To assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the appropriate level of patient care according to the scope of EMT practice, Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati Southwest Ohio Protocols, Commission on Accreditation for Medical Transport Systems as well as organizational and departmental policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY)
  • Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms.
  • Performs treatments, administers medication, or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.

Clinical Practitioner:
  • Possess knowledge and skill to ensure assessments are pertinent and accurate. Evaluates the care that is provided and responds appropriately.
  • Possesses and demonstrates advanced knowledge and clinical skills to provide critical assessment(s), intervention, and evaluation necessary to ensure safe and efficient transport of the critically ill or injured patient.
  • Serves as a patient advocate and respects the patient's right to privacy and confidentiality.

Maintains accurate records :
  • Completes patient documentation and all transport records thoroughly, timely and per department policies. Completes required operational paperwork thoroughly and ensures proper functioning of equipment and vehicles; reports any deficiencies or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Reports to any satellite or staging base(s) for work assignments as needed for operational efficiency. Takes initiative to obtain information related to department operations by, but not limited to attending meetings, reviewing meetings minutes, reading department generated e-mails, newsletters and other formats of communication in a timely manner (every week at a minimum. Ability to accommodate Department Staffing needs: Days, Nights, Weekends, Holidays and On-Call.

Professional Growth :
  • Remains current and active in the EMT field and the medical transport industry. Has a concept of self development; recognizes the need for professional growth and takes the appropriate steps toward meeting educational needs.
  • Identifies and assumes responsibility for learning needs by completing a minimum of two applicable clinical rotations or clinical experiences per performance appraisal year. Educates healthcare professionals and other customers regarding the operation of the transport program (includes orienting new associates as assigned).

Safety :
  • Ensures that work areas are organized, clean and present a safe, effective, and efficient environment for self, patients, and other colleagues.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of safe emergency vehicle operations/emergency egress operations and other state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Responds to transports and other requests in a safe and timely manner. Secures and handles equipment with the appropriate securing devices. Reports any safety concerns in a timely manner and uses the appropriate process for doing so.

Customer Service :
  • Makes customer service a top priority; works collaboratively and interdependently with other health care providers. Initiates and participates in customer service initiatives; participates in formal and informal marketing and community outreach efforts for the program and industry.


Qualifications

Education: High school diploma required

Certification: EMT-B/I license

Years of Experience: Minimum 3 years experience as an EMT
