The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice practical nursing. LPN (Meds) will have successfully completed a Board approved basic intravenous therapy course. The LPN, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), performs duties, which require a basic knowledge of nursing principles and the ability to perform technical skills in carrying out nursing procedures that are culturally based and age specific.

Responsibilities

PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY)

Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.

Job Functions:
  • Planning - Assists in planning and evaluation of clinical care for designated patients.
  • Implementation - Initiates and implements nursing care plans under the direction of an RN according to patient needs administering safe, competent nursing care to patients.
  • Transits - Assists with entry and exit if patients from the clinical area.
  • Clinical Procedures - Assists with complex patient care procedures, such as physical examination, lumbar puncture, biopsies and dressing changes.
  • Medications - Administers medications in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Equipment & Supplies - Assists in maintaining emergency and diagnostic equipment and or supplies.
  • Communications - Reports information the RN concerning patient's symptoms, reactions, progress and responses to patient care.
  • Documentation - Accurately record patient information using current documentation standards.
  • Discharges - Actively participates in patient care conferences, discharging rounds and records discharge teaching needs as well as patients response according to general standards of discharge criteria.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED - Minimum Required
  • Associates Degree - Preferred Degree
  • Minimum Required - Graduate of Practical Nursing
  • Licensed LPN in Ohio.
  • Certified in OPNES or NAPNES
  • 1 Year equivalent experience - Preferred
