Manager- Project Portfolio, Day Shift, UC Health Business Center

UC Health is hiring a full-time Project Portfolio Manager for UC Health's Business Center.

The primary role of the Portfolio Project Manager will be the management of a focused portfolio of initiatives and project work for one or more assigned Clinical Domain(s) areas - (OR/Periop, Women's Health, Mental Health, ICU, Inpatient, Emergency Services, Procedural, Diagnostic, and Ambulatory) The portfolio of work will include multiple concurrent moderate to highly complex projects.

Focus on priorities that the clinical systems identify for the organization to move towards the goal of becoming a top-performing health system using the UC Health PI Way as the foundation to achieve this goal.

Collaboration across the health system is critical and this role will be responsible for regularly connecting with various financial, operational, and clinical leaders across the organization to ensure consistency and alignment of operational and management priorities. Actively support strategic planning and regular goal setting. Regularly meet with project sub-teams to help teams remain on task and on time with their initiatives and projects.

The Portfolio Project Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for Clinical Domain areas and project work as assigned. This includes regular connects with Clinical Domain leadership, clinical units and teams, and other project team members to escalate barrier(s) and ensure necessary follow-up is completed to mitigate identified barrier(s). Develop a project review process that works for Clinical Domain Leaders to be regularly updated on initiative and project status. Management of meeting cadence to facilitate leadership awareness about capital requests, new staff, program/department development, system constraints, system growth, comments/concerns, etc.

Additional responsibilities of a Portfolio Project Manager will include typical project management skills (scope project work, define and track milestones, ensure accountability, etc.), but also the ability to work across departments, sites, and clinical domains to provide access to internal expertise, resources, and incorporate leading practices and innovative solutions.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:
  • Minimum Required: Bachelor of Business Admin OR Bachelor of Health Care Admin OR Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • Preferred:
    • Master of Education OR Master of Health Administration or Master's Degree in a related field
    • Project Management Professional or related certification

LICENSE & CERTIFICATION:
  • LEAN/Six Sigma Experience and/or formal training desirable
  • Institute for Improvement (IHI) Certification

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
  • 3-5 years of experience managing multiple, highly complex projects with various teams and across sites/locations
  • 2 years of experience managing multiple, highly complex projects
  • Two years of supervisory experience OR 2 years of operational experience

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • The most important background for this position is a history of using Lean to make actual improvements.
  • 3-5 years at a minimum
  • In order to have organizational credibility a BS degree in a related field is an educational requirement. An advanced degree is desirable, but not essential.
  • Experience in the following software applications is required:
    • Spreadsheets (Excel, etc.)
    • PowerPoint
    • Word Processing (Word, etc.)
  • Must have detailed knowledge of Lean philosophy, methodology, and tools. An excellent understanding of hospital organization and measurement is desirable.
  • Must present a professional manner, have good verbal/written communication skills; be able to maintain confidentiality of all data. Demonstrate ability to lead and coach teams across a wide variety of skill levels (staff to Sr. Exec, technicians, nurses, physicians) as well as across the full spectrum of UC Health functions (Ambulatory, Hospital, Business, etc.)
