Patient Access Representative, Patient Finance, First Shift

UC Health is hiring a full-time Patient Access Representative for the patient finance/customer service department. The Patient Accounting Representative bills claims electronically, check for unpaid claim status, post cash, pursue self pay cash collections, scan documents, request medical records and/or provide customer service.

Job Responsibilities

Managing Revenue Cycle accounts receivable, following standard Operating Departmental Procedures to ensure prompt payment of payer and patient payments. Responsible for collaborating with other departments, or third parties, to drive payer and patient collections.

During the evaluation process, we take into consideration the applicants' experience and credentials for the positions of PAR I, PAR II, and Sr. PAR.
  • Communicates COB with patients for registration denials, claim edits, and rejections.
  • Communicates directly with payers to follow up on outstanding claims/records/ROI via fax, phone, portals.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of primary WQs (Charge Review, Claim Edit).
  • Demonstrates initiative and resourcefulness by making recommendations and communicating trends/issues/delays to management.
  • Understands and maintains compliance with HIPAA guidelines when handling patient information.
  • Accept daily claim run, paper claims, attachments.
  • Charge Review Missing Guarantor research and completion.
  • Assist other staff in prioritizing workload to resolve errors/warnings from other staff members' workloads to prevent backlog and fills in as needed for absent staff.
  • Analyze explanation of benefits to distribute payments when applicable
  • Demonstrates knowledge of primary WQs (Charge Review, Claim Edit, Retro, Follow up)
  • Knowledge of Waystar for denials, remits, etc.
  • Authorization notifications for Ambulatory Services in Hospital Based clinics (CCHMC, others)


Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associates degree is preferred.
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in Revenue Cycle and/or Epic Revenue Cycle applications.
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and listening skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks daily.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong typing and keyboard skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with 3rd party payer guidelines, reimbursement, follow-up, denials, and collections.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of claims review and analysis; ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding.
