Perioperative Business Manager

Job Description

UC Health is hiring a Full-Time Perioperative Business Manager for the Surgery, Administration, and General Business Department at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Business Manager will be responsible for assisting the Manager and Director with overall financial management. This position conducts clinical data analysis, performs data interpretation, and produces reports to provide enhancing quality monitoring and support improvements in quality of care, service levels, system review, and cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities

Data Management and Analytics:
  • Responsible for data analysis/interpretation of reports collected from various database systems (Epic, ECIN, Excel, Midas, EPSI, Oracle, Tableau); Develop and implement action plans in collaboration with departmental leadership as a result of critical report results.
  • System/Database Super User - supports people within assigned departments in the use of financial systems and other databases as needed.
  • Manages departmental vacancies and provides analysis/support to help mitigate; acts as liaison with Human Resources as it relates to position controls, productivity reports, etc.
  • Establish collaborative partnerships among stakeholders to leverage the benefits of standardized tools, people, and centralized activities for a seamless interface to physicians and patients.
  • Partners with IT and system implementation teams to improve system capabilities, workflows, and develops strategies for improved utilization in platforms such as Epic, ECIN, etc.
  • Identifies data needs and provides analysis for quality, operational, and financial initiatives.
  • Attends, participates, and provides analytical support for department meetings.
  • Collaborates with outside departments and establishes performance dashboards related to the department of responsibility and other related initiatives.
  • Demonstrates and directs employees in using a systematic approach in analyzing and utilizing data in problem-solving and predictive analysis.
  • Ensures that the department goals and objectives coincide with the hospital's strategic plan linking to outcomes.

Finance and Budget:
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates the department's annual and capital budgets to achieve organizational and departmental objectives.
  • Analyzes and monitors financial performance and manages the reporting of financial results for assigned departments.
  • Evaluates variances, determine underlying causes, and identify and implement proposed solutions.
  • Establishes and monitors productivity metrics.
  • Monitors critical charge capture and stays current with CMS and regulation charge capture changes and ensures compliance.
  • Ensures complete and accurate hospital billing in collaboration with department-specific processes.
  • Manages and supports strategic supply/equipment/capital acquisition.
  • Collaborates with the Value Analysis Team as needed and supports financial justification for acquiring new products.
  • Identifies opportunities for improving costs.

Project Management:
  • Determines and defines project scope and objectives.
  • Measures project performance to identify areas for improvement.
  • Predicts resources needed to reach objectives and manage resources in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Supports in preparing a budget based on the scope of work and resource requirements.
  • Tracks project costs to meet budget (specifically for construction projects).
  • Develops and manages a detailed project schedule and work plan.
  • Provides project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress.
  • Manages contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables.
  • Utilizes industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout the entire project execution.
  • Monitors progress and adjusts as needed - data-supported outcomes preferred.

Communication and Collaboration:
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Initiates and develops positive relationships with associates, management, and healthcare providers, exhibiting respect, flexibility, and cooperation at all times.
  • Provides in-service training for staff in response to identified needs or areas for improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in Health Information / Business Management.
  • Master of Business Administration or Master of Healthcare is strongly preferred.
  • 1 - 2 years of equivalent experience is required.
  • 3 - 5 years of equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Previous Healthcare and Perioperative experience is strongly preferred.
