Under the general supervision of the Pharmacy Manager, and according to standard procedure and scope of practices in the area(s) of responsibility, performs all duties necessary to coordinate the daily operations of all departmental services and programs as well as pharmacists and technicians working therein.
Responsibilities
Job Function: Operations
Assume responsibilities for other administrative personnel during temporary or planned absences.
Job Function: Regulatory Compliance
Ensure ongoing compliance with and regular review of updates for non-hazardous and hazardous medication handling (USP 795, 797, 800)
Job Function: Financial
Coordinate non-formulary request reviews and reviews of off-label medication use to ensure proper therapy and lessen financial impact
Job Function: Human Resources
Job Function: Policy and Procedures
Develop and implement policies and procedures related to the area of responsibility
Job Function: Quality Improvement
Demonstrate support for employee engagement by involving employees in the identification of opportunities for improvement within processes as well as problem solving efforts.
Job Function: Education and Research
Develop and participate in performance improvement, practice project, and research activities in area(s) of expertise.
Qualifications
Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency, with preference for ASHP accredited PGY2 and/or fellowship in specialty area. Significant research contributions and medication use evaluation (MUE) activity in specialty area of practice, preferred. Recognized as an expert in field of specialty (locally, regionally, or nationally) through professional service, presentations, and/or publications.
EDUCATION :
Minimum Required: Master's Degree.
Preferred Degree: PharmD
LICENSE & CERTIFICATION:
Registered pharmacist or eligible for licensure in Ohio.
Current certification in Basic Life Support (BSL) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). | Preferred: 1 - 2 Years equivalent experience

Responsibilities
Job Function: Operations
- Manage, coordinate, and direct operational and patient care activities within the area of responsibility.
- This includes the following activities:
- Assign staffing responsibilities; regulate staffing; assist in scheduling of staff department wide.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to area of responsibility.
- Participate in department's continuous quality improvement process.
- Develop, prepare, and maintain work/activity data and summary reports.
- Respond to the hospital's disaster plan.
- Participate in cross coverage and/or the "on call" rotation among departmental leaders (site dependent).

Job Function: Regulatory Compliance
- Manage, coordinate, and direct responsibilities for compliance with pharmacy regulatory organizations within the area of responsibility. This includes the following activities:
- Participate, provide feedback, and ensure follow-through regarding Joint Commission Medication Management standards identified during Nursing Unit Reviews, AMP tracers, and Environment of Care rounds
- Ensure ongoing compliance with and regular review of updates for non-sterile and sterile medication compounding requirements (USP 795, 797, 800)
Ensure ongoing compliance with and regular review of updates for non-hazardous and hazardous medication handling (USP 795, 797, 800)
Job Function: Financial
- Plan and manage expenditures and revenues in area of responsibility.
- Ensure appropriate utilization of personnel and supply.
- Participate in financial operating forecast preparation through review of regulatory requirements for sterile compounding environments and projected changes in drug/blood subaccount expenses.
- Identify and implement cost savings initiatives in areas of responsibility.

- Manage, coordinate, and direct human resource activities within the area of responsibility. This includes the following activities:
- Participate in recruitment activities.
- Review applicant pool and request interview.
- Create interview itinerary, collect feedback from interview panels and recommend for employment selected applicants.
- Onboard, orient, train/oversee training and develop employees
- Evaluate employee performance

- Serve as an advisor and/or preceptor for students and/or pharmacy residents.
- Coordinate student rotation schedules with affiliate colleges of pharmacy.
- Serve as an intern preceptor, where applicable.
