UC Health is hiring a Pharmacy Technician Trainee for Inpatient Pharmacy at the University of Cincinnati's Medical Center.
Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technician trainees work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed by only a registered pharmacist.

Responsibilities
Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technician trainees work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed by only a registered pharmacist.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma, is the minimum required. College courses are desirable but not required.
License and Certification: Current pharmacy technician registration by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy. Must obtain a certified technician certificate within one year of hire. All technicians must maintain registration and certification throughout their employment with the UC Health Pharmacy Department.
Experience: No experience required. One to two years equivalent experience preferred.
Required Skills and Knowledge: Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods; work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff; handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule; set priorities and solve problems; respond quickly to emergency requests; communicate effectively (orally and in writing) and assist in meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of the patient populations served by the organization

Responsibilities
Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technician trainees work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed by only a registered pharmacist.
- Contributes to the effective operation of the department by picking up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds.
- Answers the telephone and answers requests at the window/door to make stat deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested.
- Communicates clearly when providing instructions to patients/families regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
- Accepts new written, faxed, or electronic prescription orders from a prescriber or a prescriber's agent.
- Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department by completing and documenting all assigned medication storage area inspections at least monthly; identifies and replaces outdated and unusable medications; collects data, conducts quality monitors, and completes documentation as assigned.
- Prepares and affixes medication labels; Counts and pours dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist and prepares non-sterile compounds.
- Prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations (including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition) safely and accurately using appropriate techniques while under supervision.
