Registered Nurse (RN), 12 Hour AM, Surgical Oncology

UC Health is hiring a full time Registered Nurse (RN) for the Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant unit for the dayshift at UC Medical Center. Be a part of a growing Bone Marrow Transplant and Infusion program, by making an indelible impact cancer patient's lives through caring for them with the most advanced treatment.

The Oncology Nurse will support the Cincinnati r egions' only adult FACT-accredited academic blood and marrow transplant program, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care and according to policy and procedures.

The unit serves adult and geriatric hematology/oncology and bone marrow transplant patients across the care continuum, including terminal care. Diagnoses include solid tumor oncologic malignancies (e.g., hematologic malignancies and solid tumors, etc.) bone marrow/hematologic malignancies (e.g. Bone marrow transplant, sickle cell disease, ITP, MDS), and Gynecology/Oncology patients. This unit also provides care to medical-surgical overflow patients.

Care that is provided to the patient population on 8NW includes but not limited to: chemotherapy/biotherapy infusion therapy, stem-cell transplantation and post care, general medical care, blood product infusion, post-operative care of the gynecology/oncology needs, comprehensive patient/family teaching, emotional/spiritual support, and management of chronically ill diagnoses.

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. The care is culturally based and age-specific.
  • Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient/family within the time frame indicated by unit's standards of practice.
  • Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care, and demonstrates ability to establish priorities of care based on patient's assessment and needs.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit.
  • Nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance to hospital policy and procedure.
  • Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and/or supplemental staff working on the unit.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.


Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Associate's Degree, minimum required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred
  • Current OH RN License
