Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor, 12-Hour Flex, Emergency Room

The Emergency Room at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) is hiring a Full-Time Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor.

The RN Supervisor will support UCMC's Emergency Room Department, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care, and according to policy and procedures.

Responsibilities

Ensures that excellent patient care is being delivered, maintains expeditious patient flow with a focus on customer service, and supervises nursing staff. Provides input on staff evaluations and completes evaluations for their regular staff cohort.
  • Supervises staff assigned to their unit or center of excellence and demonstrates the ability to coach and mentor staff.
  • Leads and implements operational improvement initiatives and assures compliance via staff coaching and mentoring.
  • Identifies needs for specific equipment and ensures adequate and properly functioning equipment and supplies are available for patient care.
  • Ensures shift practice is in compliance with state and federal medical laws (EMTALA, HIPAA, and House Bill 316).
  • Maintains hospital-wide and department-specific nursing competencies and completes annual competencies in the required time frame.
  • Collaborates with the Department Educator and/or provides orientation and educational needs identified in the department.
  • Actively involves and engages staff in departmental performance improvement (PI) activities according to the department PI plan.
  • Provides immediate counseling for staff when specific behaviors or incidents negatively affect patient care or the general work environment. Write up incidents.


Qualifications

Education:
  • BSN in nursing

Experience:
  • 5 years of clinical and progressive management experience.

License:
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Ohio
