Job Description
The Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for planning daily tasks including preparation for and completion of Nuclear Medicine procedures. Performs all aspects of Nuclear Medicine Imaging. Scanning patients, preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals and performing QC under the guidance of the Medical Director of Nuclear Medicine.
Responsibilities
PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY) 5% Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect. � Performs all aspects of Nuclear Medicine according to established protocols, which includes, but is not limited to, reviewing for appropriateness and completeness of patient histories and requests for services. Explains procedures to patient and ensures that informed consent for therapy procedures has been obtained. - 25% � Positions patients and adjusts equipment to insure proper examination. Selects and operates complex equipment; follows standard safety protocols for personal radiation protection. Performs QC on images, verifies correct patient name and MRN. Checks images for technical quality and image display. Scans all specified documents into PACS. Sends complete study to PACS as \"Reviewed\" for radiologist interpretation. Completes tasks in RIS. - 20% � Prepares and administers, orally and by intravenous injection, radiopharmeuticals under physician direction. Provides routine patient care while patients are in the department. Practicies aseptic and sterile technique to prevent the spread of disease. Assists in administering emergency procedures as needed. - 20% � Maintains appropriate records and supplies. Performs equipment tests as needed and participates in (or is responsible for) quality control. Reports equipment proglems to service (biomed Masterplan) and apprises management in a timely manner. - 10% � Supervises and precepts students in methods and procedures. - 5% � Participates in continuing education activities related to the field of Imaging Technology and its subspecialities. Demonstrates and maintains skills in providing care for patients of specific age groups, such as geriatric, through in-service and continuing education. - 5% � See attached list for other supervisory duties. - 10% | Review the physical demands and assign an overall average percentage of time this position performs these activities. Qualifications
