UC Health is hiring a Full-time Social Work (MSW) Supervisor - Outpatient/Emergency/Office Decedent Affairs for the Social Work-Outpatient's department for varied shifts at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Social Worker (MSW) Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that quality, patient centered Social Work services are being provided to patients on a daily basis. Ensure adequate staff coverage is available to provide comprehensive services to patients and their families; support to the multidisciplinary health care team; and intervene with problem resolution on complex cases. Identify and address internal and external barriers that prevent and/or interfere with interventions and treatment plans. Offer support and feedback to staff, as appropriate to maintain professional practice.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities
  • The supervisor provides direct supervision for MSW social workers. The supervisor will work under the guidance and supervision of the Manager.
  • Direct all patient care services including psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, counseling, referrals, and disposition when needed.
  • Assist staff in prioritizing activities, locating resources, and scheduling educational engagements.
  • Recommend strategies to enhance productivity and quality of work and ensure consistent documentation to meet regulatory requirements
  • Maintain statistical information as required for productivity reports
  • Assist with scheduling, shift assignment, and reallocation of staff as needed to ensure coverage.
  • Provide staff coverage in the absence of essential staff.
  • Ensure staff know performance expectations and hold them accountable for professional practice.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain a working environment that supports the RITE Values and assist in Service Recovery
  • Develop and maintain liaison relationships within the department, other health care professionals and community agencies.
  • Motivate staff to achieve highest level of professional and personal development.
  • Communicate and convey information to staff that promotes staff involvement and satisfaction.
  • Promote inter and intra-department communications.
  • Develop and implement education programs for social workers and other multidisciplinary hospital staff; provide instruction and consultation to medical students and residents.
  • Provide an environment that utilizes the core values of standards of practice and ethics.
  • Actively participate in the departments' Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program.
  • Serve on committees and special projects as assigned by the manager.
  • In conjunction with the Manager: Assist with the interviewing, selection, orientation, and training of new personnel, provide counseling and corrective action when appropriate, help monitor turnover and vacancy rate, and complete annual performance evaluations. Assist in the development of the department's budgets and monitor expenditure. Monitor work hours for payroll; PTO usage and payroll distribution reports. Ensure cost efficiency of care delivery through budget recommendations.
  • Promote behavioral standards that support the values and ethics of the social work profession.
  • Troubleshoot and mediate patient/family, departmental, community, and staff issues.
  • Participate and support activities that promote customer satisfaction as evidenced by customer satisfaction survey.
  • Attend meetings, mandatory training and continuing education; submit reports, chart documentation in a timely, complete manner.
  • Co-Lead department team meetings.
  • Identify the special needs and behaviors of specific patient age groups. Demonstrate competency in addressing the unique age related physical, psychosocial and social needs of patients across the life span.
  • Maintain licensure. Submit proof of renewal and Continuing Education logs


Qualifications

Educations and Licensure
  • Education:
    • Master of Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work,
  • License and Certification:
    • Licensed Independent Social Worker - Supervisor by the State of Ohio Social Work Board (LISW-S) Certification preferred; or license eligible
  • Years of experience:
    • 5 years clinical experience, Supervisory experience preferred
  • Required Skills and Knowledge:
    • The Social Work Supervisor must be a licensed or license eligible, Independent Social Worker knowledgeable in methods of clinical supervision; casework principles, including assessment and discharge planning; skilled in diagnosis, crisis intervention, and counseling. Awareness of community resources including public assistance systems, Medicare/Medicaid and managed care plans. Supervisor must be effective in utilizing resources and materials; maintaining sound organizational relationships; demonstrate progressive responsibilities in personnel management; provide evidence of continued growth and leadership development; and accept professional and ethical standards within the professional organizations.
