Sr Staff Accountant, Accounting & Financial Reporting

UC Health is hiring for a Full-Time Sr Staff Accountant in the Accounting & Financial Reporting Department at the UC Health Business Center. Reporting to the Manager, Accounting Services, the Fixed Asset Accountant will be responsible for all aspects of accounting relating to Construction in Process (CIP) and Fixed Assets in a high volume, multi-location environment. In addition, this role reviews the work of staff accountants, provides training and mentoring to staff.

Responsibilities

CIP and Fixed Assets
  • Monitor and review Construction in Process (CIP) and work closely with project managers to ensure timely in-service dates with proper useful lives and asset classifications
  • Review, analyze, and process all capital asset disposal and capital asset transfer requests
  • Prepare and enter Fixed Assets, disposals, adjustments, and transfers
  • Handles complex strategic projects for capitalization
  • Review operating expenditures to determine if any cost should be capitalized
  • Ongoing evaluation of Fixed Asset Inventory

Monthly Close and Account Reconciliations
  • Assist with monthly closing of Asset Management
  • Prepare Fixed Asset roll-forward
  • Prepare Balance Sheet reconciliations & analytics for Fixed Asset accounts
  • Responsible for reconciliation of Fixed Asset subledger to General Ledger balances
  • Update the Construction in Process (CIP) tracker and reconciliation
  • Compile and post GL entries as needed
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of required accounting, internal controls, and applicable processes/procedures related to assigned accounts.
  • Ensure all reconciliations meet established UC Health reconciliation standards

Year-end and Audit
  • Ensure all Projects in-service during the Fiscal Year have been Capitalized
  • Manage the annual Fixed Asset Impairment testing process
  • Assist in the preparation audit schedules, including Impairment and ARO
  • Assist in preparation of documentation for audit requests

Process Improvement
  • Continually review processes and procedures and identify potential improvements
  • Assist in developing plans and implementing process improvements by working within and outside department

Other Tasks
  • Develop a thorough understanding of accounting principles and standards and assist in accounting research and documentation as directed
  • Assist with ad-hoc reporting requests and other projects as requested by management
  • Back-up to GL Accountants if/when necessary


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, required
  • 3 to 5 years of equivalent experience, required
  • Strong Fixed Asset experience, understanding of Capital Policies, Monthly Close Process, Financial Reporting, and GAAP concepts, preferred
  • Advanced skills in Excel, preferred
