The Manager-Sterile Processing is responsible for the direction and overall supervision of the OR/OB Processing Department as it relates to operating budget, daily operations, staffing and regulatory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Management

  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate staffing levels, including hiring decisions, staffing patterns, and daily assignment oversight.
  • Supervise the selection, development, performance appraisal, and discipline of reporting personnel.
  • Ensure job requirements and performance goals for each position are clearly communicated to employees.
  • Provide employee feedback regarding production, customer service, performance evaluations, and corrective actions.
  • Conduct departmental meetings on a routine basis or as needed.
  • Responsible for appropriate communication with Perioperative Services Administration and Medical Staff.


Education & Employee Development

  • Ensure orientation, in-service training, and continuing education opportunities are provided to personnel.
  • Provide education to personnel, patients, and families through both structured presentations and unstructured interactions while performing tests or resolving technical questions.
  • Ensure employees receive sufficient training to achieve the desired level of competency.
  • Document evidence of ongoing employee competency on a continuing basis.


Department Operations

  • Direct daily operational activities of the OR/OB Processing Department.
  • Develop and revise policies and procedures to ensure detailed processes are available for staff to follow.
  • Develop policies and procedures that promote an effective and efficient department while providing appropriate support to the Operating Room and other hospital departments.
  • Responsible for providing and managing exceptional customer service for both internal and external customers.
  • Support materials management functions, including notification of stock-outs, low PAR levels, new supply requests, and inventory locations.


Quality Improvement & Process Excellence

  • Recommend and support process improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and implement new processes and workflows.
  • Collect and analyze performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop performance-based processes and communicate results to stakeholders.
  • Assist the Perioperative Black Belt with projects and resource allocation for project tasks.


Financial Management

  • Assist with the development and management of the department's operating budget.


Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards, including:
    • AORN
    • AAMI
    • IAHCSMM
    • JCAHO


Technology & Systems Support

  • Assist with the implementation and operation of information systems utilized within the OR/OB Processing Department.


Qualifications

Required Education

  • High School Diploma or GED


Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's Degree


Required Certification

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)


Required Experience

  • Five (5) to Seven (7) years of progressive management and leadership experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of direct management experience with a concentration in High Level Disinfection (HLD).
  • Experience preferably obtained at the Supervisor and/or Manager level.
