UC Health is hiring a Full Time Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor for the Surgery Department at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
The Clinical Supervisor will support the Medical Centers' Surgery Department, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care and according to policy and procedures.

The Clinical Shift Supervisor assumes the responsibility for ensuring excellent patient care is being delivered, maintaining expeditious patient flow with a focus on customer service, and supervision of nursing staff. The Clinical Shift Supervisor will provide input on staff evaluations and complete evaluations for their regular staff cohort. The Clinical Shift Supervisor will also assist with cost containment, and manage all employees to do the same. The position requires knowledge of leadership and effective interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities
The Clinical Shift Supervisor assumes the responsibility for ensuring excellent patient care is being delivered, maintaining expeditious patient flow with a focus on customer service, and supervision of nursing staff. - Supervises staff assigned to their unit or center of excellence and demonstrates the ability to coach and mentor staff.
- Lead and implement operational improvement initiatives and assures compliance via staff coaching and mentoring.
- Identifies needs for specific equipment and ensures adequate and properly functioning equipment and supplies are available for patient care.
- Ensure shift practice is in compliance with state and federal medical laws (EMTALA, HIPAA and House Bill 316).
- Maintain hospital wide and department specific nursing competencies and completes annual competencies in required time frame.
- Collaborate with the Department Educator and/or provides for orientation and educational needs identified in the department.
- Actively involved and engage staff in departmental performance improvement (PI) activities according to department PI plan.
- Provides immediate counseling for staff when specific behaviors or incidents negatively affect patient care or the general work environment. Write up incidents.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- Minimum Bachelor of Science of Nursing is required .
LICENSE & CERTIFICATION:
- Licensed to practice in the State of Ohio, specialty specific certifications
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of two to four years of clinical nursing experience in area of clinical specialty.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Demonstrates effective problem solving/decision making abilities. Knowledge of practice requirements for RN, Medics, HUCs and PCA as mandated by the state or organization. Evidence of continuing professional growth such as membership in a professional organization in area of clinical specialization; able to work flexible hours as needed. Ability to work clinically in assigned unit.
