Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, and according to standard procedure, manage, develop and plan the nonprofessional operations of the departmental services and programs. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor is responsible for supervising pharmacy technician operations and ensuring that pharmacy technicians provide safe and timely services on a daily basis. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor provides support to pharmacists, physicians, patients, clinical pharmacy specialists/practitioners and managers.

Responsibilities

Supervise, coordinate, and direct operational activities within the area of responsibility:

Ensure team members remain competent in all technical areas

Authenticate that all technical staff obtain and maintain certifications and/or licensures as required by state and federal law and/or UC Health policy

Assists in the resolution of problems relating to drug distribution/procurement as identified and/or referred from patients, pharmacy management, nurses, and others.

Assign staffing responsibilities; assist in scheduling of staff department wide

Prepare and maintain technician schedule. Update as necessary

Assist in development and implementation of policies/procedures or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relating to area of responsibility

Develop, prepare, and maintain work/activity data and summary reports for compliance

Supervise and direct human resource activities within the area of responsibility:

Interview and recommend selected applicants for employment

Assist in personnel orientation, training, and development

Fosters a team environment by providing continuous feedback during orientation and training of new team members

Evaluate personnel and give continuous feedback for technical team members

Provide corrective action counseling or recognition, as appropriate

Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department:

Reviews the performance of direct reports

Establishes productive, collaborative relationships with team members

Participate in department and hospital continuous quality improvement processes

Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director or Director of Pharmacy Services:

Works cooperatively with all team members; voices concerns and suggestions to appropriate persons in a positive manner

Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, medication-use safety, security, fire safety, and infection-prevention; complies with all applicable federal/state/local laws, rules, and regulations

Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director or Director of Pharmacy

Maintains competence required for current job title/position:

Meaningfully contributes to assigned meetings

Sustains professional competence and promotes development of self and others through participation in committees, workshops, seminars, and professional organizations

Completes all assigned competencies/skills assessments within the expected timeframe

Ensures that the pharmacy meets or exceeds all accreditation standards (CMS, TJC, URAC, etc.) and other standards related to pharmacy:

Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, medication-use safety, security, fire safety, and infection-prevention;

Complies with all applicable federal/state/local laws, rules, and regulations

Qualifications

Minimum Required: High School Diploma or GED. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Health Administration or Public Health (MHA or MPH). | Current pharmacy technician registration by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy. Current certified technician certificate. Registration and certification throughout their employment with the UC Health Pharmacy Department. | Minimum Required: 5 Years equivalent experience.
