Surgical Technologist, Varied Shift, Surgery Department

UC Health is hiring a full-time Surgical Technologist for the surgery department for varied shifts at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. We're offering a $25,000 sign-on bonus!

The Surgery Department Surgical Technologist will support the University of Cincinnati Medical Center's operating room (OR) and Greater Cincinnati's only Level I Trauma Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs. The major focus is on the scrub role but may also include an assistant circulator role under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

  • The surgical technologist needs to demonstrate knowledge and expertise in a variety of surgical specialties and the initiative to continually expand and refine clinical skills. It is also someone who identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication, or operates equipment safely.

Job Responsibilities
  • Communicates with the Perioperative Team Manager, Primary Nurse and/or Specialty Tech regarding changes to surgeon preference sheets, case cart sheets, and service manuals based on surgeon requests and current practice and knowledge. Is available to the Perioperative Team Manager and Daily Operations Manager for assignment as needed to meet the operational needs of Perioperative Services.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  • Provides a safe, efficient environment for the surgical patients, and is able to recognize emergency situations and institutes established corrective actions.
  • Exhibits knowledge of care and use of all equipment, instruments and supplies used for surgical procedures.
  • Displays dexterity in the use of surgical instruments and knowledge of step-by-step procedures for specific surgical interventions and recognizes the importance of teamwork, consideration, and cooperation.


Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an approved school of surgical technology. Approved programs involve 2 years of education and on-the-job practice (clinicals).
  • Years of Experience: Demonstrate competency and possess the technical skills appropriate for assigned surgical cases and utilizes those skills to assist other
