Technical Specialist, First Shift, Blood Bank Department

UC Health is hiring a full-time Technical Specialist for the blood bank department for first shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Technical Specialist provides technical expertise and specialized technical skills that support research, implementation, and evaluation of new and existing laboratory analyses, provides technical and educational support for testing personnel and laboratory management, is responsible for directing the technical competency programs and for establishing correlation of existing methodologies, and works closely with the Medical Director and the Technical Consultant to ensure quality services.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensures technical competency of staff through the establishment of training and competency evaluation programs.
  • Provides continuing education programs in the technical specialty across all UC Health hospitals.
  • Provides advice and support to resolve technical issues including instrument malfunctions.
  • Develops and implements new testing methods. Evaluates and makes recommendations for new instrumentation to UC Health Lab Steering Committee.
  • Develops and implements technical quality assurance programs. Review and evaluates quality assurance reports to ensure compliance.
  • Develops and directs the efforts to ensure correlation of data across testing methods and locations. Reviews and evaluates these efforts to ensure compliance.
  • Reviews standards established by accrediting agencies to ensure compliance. Initiates new policies and procedures when appropriate.
  • Ensures participation in accredited proficiency programs. Reviews and evaluates results of proficiency programs and initiates corrective action when indicated.
  • Performs duties of a Medical Technologist II as required.


Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, or Medical Technology from an accredited institution.
  • MT(ASCP) certification required.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in specialty area.
