Unit Details:
- Air Care & Mobile Care has provided the Greater Cincinnati area with specialized medical transport services for patients in our community for over 35 years.
- Air Care & Mobile Care is the only service in the region to be accredited in four levels of medical transport by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems.
- Air Care & Mobile Care specializes in caring for and transporting critically injured and sick patients, wherever they may be, by bringing the world-class care of UC Medical Center to the patient.
Responsibilities
- Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs to provide safe and appropriate care.
- Independently implements a comprehensive, scope-specific plan of care that addresses the physical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs of the patient and their family before and throughout transport, in collaboration with other healthcare providers.
- Possesses and demonstrates knowledge and clinical skills to provide advanced level assessment(s), intervention, and evaluation necessary to ensure safe and efficient transport of the critically ill or injured patient.
- Ability to perform advanced-level life-saving skills as determined by patient condition including the following but not limited to: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management including emergency airway management, ventilator management, cardiac defibrillation, excessive bleeding control, trauma management including spine stabilization, splinting of limbs, Cervical spine immobilization rapid extrication procedures, chest tube monitoring and management, 12 lead EKG set up, performance and interpretation.
- Ability to perform basic level point of care lab testing, obtain and interpret vital signs, and manage medication within the scope of practice.
- Adheres to all hospital policies, including, but not limited to, maintaining privacy and confidentiality, demonstrating knowledge of safe emergency vehicle operations, and ensuring clean, safe, and organized work areas.
- Remains current and active in the paramedic field and medical transport industry, including maintenance of all required licensures, certifications, and competencies. Recognizes the need for professional growth and takes the appropriate steps toward meeting educational needs.
- Completes mandatory annual unit-specific, hospital, and safety education training.
- Completes EKG test upon hire and annually with a passing score.
- Educates healthcare professionals and other customers regarding the operation of the transport program (including orienting new associates as assigned).
- Participates in improving organizational performance; evaluates the effectiveness of established programs and makes recommendations for changes to improve upon the quality of patient care and their outcomes.
- Maintains accurate records in a thorough and timely manner.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to use strong judgment in the analysis of facts and circumstances.
- Ability to make independent clinically and operationally competent decisions in a challenging environment.
- Ability to adapt to stressful situations; capable of identifying strengths and weaknesses and seeking appropriate resources.
- Able to lead a team approach to patient care.
- Effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- All skills outlined in the Ohio Paramedic Scope of Practice.
Qualifications
Education & experience:
- High school graduate or GED required.
- One year of Emergency Medical Service experience as a Paramedic required.
- Military medical/paramedicine experience considered.
- Intra-facility transport experience preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Current Ohio Paramedic certification required; National Registry preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) & Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required upon hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) & Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) to be obtained within the probationary period.
- FEMA 100, 200 courses within the initial probationary period.
- Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or its equivalency (s) must be obtained within the probationary period.
- Active, unrestricted Driver's License with no more than 4 accrued points.
