Clinical Respiratory Therapy Supervisor, Night Shift, Respiratory Therapy Department

UC Health is hiring a part-time Clinical Respiratory Therapy Supervisor for the respiratory therapy department for the night shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Clinical Respiratory Therapy Supervisor oversees the clinical aspect of Respiratory Care and the methodologies utilized by the Respiratory Care Department. The Clinical Supervisor will provide direct patient care and participate in facility committees as assigned by the Respiratory Care Director.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

Providing direct patient care primarily when; the workload exceeds current staffing levels; when orienting new hospital staff; Director discretion to assist with maintaining high level competency with the current practices of the Respiratory staff In conjunction with the Team Leader, assuring appropriate staffing assignments based on current acuity, therapist skill level, and patient/family need(s). Implementing interventions to carry out both short and long-range goals. Participating in department/unit/hospital based performance improvement activities. Assuring compliance to policies and procedures. Providing consultation and clinical advice to members of the healthcare team to include Medical Staff, Respiratory, Nursing, Therapy and patient/families. Identifying issues/problems that need investigation, resolution, and appropriate follow-up. Facilitating the maintenance of a clean, safe, and organized environment.
  • Assisting with the strategic operation of the department from a patient care and clinical point of view.
  • Collaborating with the Respiratory Director and the different unit Clinical Managers in the planning of patient care objectives.
  • Performing management duties as designated by Department Director (i.e., payroll, unit schedule, time and attendance, unit statistics, unit meetings, reports, etc.)
  • Assisting with day-to-day clinical operations of care related to cardiopulmonary care.
  • Evaluating the clinical effectiveness and the proper application of Respiratory therapies.
  • As director by Respiratory Director, performs and or assist with performance reviews
  • Promoting economic and efficient use of resources.
  • Actively participating in problem solving, decision-making and conflict resolution.
  • Maintaining a department environment that encourages retention, development of staff, and patient satisfaction.
  • Assuring availability and appropriate use of supplies.
  • Participating with the daily rounding of patients with varying medical teams to include both the Medical Staff and the IDC team(s).
  • Participating with the identification of the learning needs of the staff as well as facilitating methods to meet those needs from a clinical aspect.
  • Assuming responsibility for your personal professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues and others
  • Participates in the planning and conducting of staff meetings and annual training.
  • Utilizes learning opportunities for the improvement of self and others.
  • Identifies personal strengths and weaknesses as a professional respiratory therapist and maintains individual advanced competency in respiratory practice.
  • Completes all educational, certification and regulatory requirements, maintaining competency in areas specific to cardiopulmonary care.
  • Submits required tests and paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Supports the implementation of recommendations and changes made to improve patient care at the unit level.
  • Evaluates respiratory therapy practice by participating in self/peer review and performance improvement activities.
  • Familiarizes self with purpose and function of committees of UC Health and utilizes them to address issues as appropriate.
  • Facilitating the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the orientation of new employees as well as recurring high-acuity low-volume competency assessment of Respiratory Therapy.


Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Associate's degree - Graduate of an AMA-approved Respiratory program minimum required. Bachelor of Science preferred.
  • 2+ years of ICU experience as a Respiratory Therapist is required.
  • 1 year of charge Respiratory Therapist and/or 2+ years of Respiratory therapy leadership/management experience is required.
  • 1+ years of tracheostomy maintenance is preferred.
  • 2+ years (or 100+ procedures) of bronchoscopy assist is strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years of advanced airway/intubation is preferred.
  • Trained and maintains proficiency in both CPR and ACLS.
  • Must be (or complete within 6 months of hire) CPR and ACLS instructor training.
  • Completes annual certification of mandatory unit-specific and hospital and safety education.
  • Previous experience with a computerized medical record system and a working knowledge of Microsoft® Office applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS PowerPoint) is strongly desired.
