The Director of Clinical Operations Communications and Engagement is responsible for designing and executing strategies that enhance clinician engagement, streamline internal communications, and amplify the reputation of UC Health within the healthcare community and beyond. Working closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Clinical Officer, this role is pivotal in fostering collaboration, transparency, and trust across leadership, physicians, nurses, and clinical staff.

The Director will align communication initiatives with institutional goals, uniting the organization's sites and service lines while advancing its purpose, vision, and mission. Additionally, this position will drive efforts to elevate physicians' profiles and recognition through strategic partnerships, endorsements, awards programs, and the enhancement of online physician profiles.

Responsibilities

Clinician Communications - 40%
  • Design and implement targeted communication strategies for physicians, nurses, and clinicians, ensuring alignment with UC Health's purpose, mission, vision, and strategic objectives.
  • Act as the primary liaison between medical leadership and the marketing communications department, ensuring the timely, relevant, and impactful delivery of information to clinical teams.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including clinical departments, medical staff, quality and safety teams, human resources, and marketing communications, to seamlessly integrate clinician-focused communications into broader organizational initiatives, including our journey to a High-Reliability Organization.
  • Develop and oversee multi-channel communication platforms (e.g., Cerkl, Viva Engage, newsletters, intranet, face-to-face meetings) to facilitate open, transparent, and consistent communication across all sites and service lines.
  • Create and execute staffing and resource plans that ensure the efficient and effective implementation of communication initiatives and maximize their impact.
  • Align communication strategies with UC Health's brand identity, mission, and vision, supporting institutional growth and strategic priorities.
  • Educate, engage, and inspire clinicians through compelling storytelling, strategic engagement initiatives, and unified messaging that fosters collaboration and cohesion within the UC Academic Health Enterprise.

Clinician Engagement - 30%
  • Collaborate with leadership across UC Health and the UC College of Medicine, including the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Clinical Officer, to design and implement engagement strategies that enhance satisfaction, foster community, and improve retention among physicians, nurses, and clinicians.
  • Facilitate regular feedback loops between clinical staff and senior leadership, creating structured opportunities for dialogue, collaboration, and actionable outcomes.
  • Plan and execute clinician engagement events, such as forums, town halls, and roundtable discussions, to promote transparency, alignment with organizational goals, and a sense of belonging.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for clinician engagement, prioritizing initiatives that advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) while supporting the overall well-being of the clinical community.
  • Research, implement, and sustain best practices for engaging and retaining top clinical talent, reinforcing UC Health's position as a preferred workplace for clinicians.
  • Oversee budgeting and resource allocation for clinician engagement and communication programs, ensuring efficient resource use to achieve maximum impact.

Reputation Management - 20%
  • Collaborate with media relations and service line marketing teams to strategically showcase physician, nursing, and clinician achievements in research, education, and patient care, enhancing UC Health's reputation as a leader in healthcare.
  • Develop and execute reputation-enhancing strategies in partnership with the physician liaison team, focusing on building strong relationships within the physician community and among key external stakeholders.
  • Oversee the development and execution of a national reputation calendar, coordinating with system leaders, analytics teams, and performance improvement teams to implement impactful strategies aligned with institutional goals.
  • Monitor and analyze performance in key healthcare industry rankings (e.g., U.S. News & World Report, Best Doctors, Top Doctors, Health Care Heroes), and lead initiatives to enhance UC Health's positioning in these evaluations.
  • Leverage endorsements, awards, and recognitions to amplify UC Health's reputation, ensuring consistent messaging that reinforces its status as a top-tier healthcare institution.
  • Advance UC Health's reputation through strategic partnerships, recognition programs, and collaborations to highlight institutional excellence and innovation.

Qualifications

Minimum Required - Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or Journalism and 6-10 years of equivalent experience

Preferred - Master's Degree
